Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş, Rector of Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU), visited the Veterinary Health Application and Research Centre (Kocatepe Animal Hospital) to inspect the newly acquired 32-slice CT scanner and 3D colour Doppler ultrasound machine.
During the visit, Kocatepe Animal Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Musa Korkmaz, Deputy Chief Physicians Dr. Lecturer Ebubekir Yazıcı, Dr. Lecturer Fatma Görücü Özbek, and Department Head İsmail Erol were also present. Rector Prof. Dr. Karakaş received information about the devices from Prof. Dr. Musa Korkmaz, Chief Physician of Kocatepe Animal Hospital.
Prof. Dr. Musa Korkmaz stated that the tomography device was an important acquisition for Kocatepe Animal Hospital and noted that the hospital served many provinces, including Afyonkarahisar, Eskişehir, Uşak, Kütahya, Isparta, Denizli, and Antalya. Korkmaz stated that thanks to tomography technology, internal organ injuries, internal bleeding, tumours, bone tissue diseases, and intravascular clotting or blockages can be detected more effectively. Korkmaz noted that three-dimensional colour Doppler ultrasonography allows for detailed, three-dimensional imaging of heart structures, thereby enabling more effective diagnosis of heart diseases. Korkmaz also stated that the acquisition of tomography and ultrasonography devices for the hospital will increase practical training opportunities for students, enhance the effectiveness of animal health services, and provide new opportunities for project and research activities.
“We have acquired a tomography and ultrasound device for our Animal Hospital”
Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş expressed his satisfaction at seeing the tomography device on site on behalf of the teaching staff working at Kocatepe Animal Hospital. Karakaş stated that the university administration had set a goal to strengthen the hospital with the most modern medical equipment and noted that efforts to procure the necessary devices had been ongoing since the hospital’s opening. Karakaş stated that the tomography device and ultrasound device were acquired for the hospital with the additional budget provided in 2026, emphasising that these investments were important in terms of the hospital’s institutional reputation and service capacity. Karakaş emphasised that with the new equipment, Kocatepe Animal Hospital would serve the region and the country with a more well-equipped structure, adding that the necessary support would continue to be provided to meet the hospital’s other needs in the coming period.
