Our Faculty’s Department of Pathology Assistant Professor Belma Dayı’s project titled “Investigation of Postmenopausal Osteoarthritis Mechanisms in a Non-Invasive Mouse Joint Loading Model” has been awarded funding under the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) 2219 – Overseas Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program.
Dr. Belma Dayı will conduct postdoctoral research for 12 months at the Institute of Life Sciences and Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool as part of her project titled “Investigation of Postmenopausal Osteoarthritis Mechanisms in a Non-Invasive Mouse Joint Loading Model.” Providing information about the project, Dayı stated that identifying the hormonal changes that play a role in the development of osteoarthritis during the postmenopausal period and the molecular mechanisms involved in this process during her research abroad will contribute to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease. Stating that the project specifically aims to determine the effects of changes in estrogen levels on joint tissues, Assistant Professor Dayı said, “This project will enable the clarification of the stages that accelerate or slow down the progression of the disease. The findings obtained as a result of the research will contribute to the international literature on understanding musculoskeletal system diseases; in the long term, it will provide a scientific basis for the development of new strategies for the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis.”
