Our faculty member, Assistant Professor Samet Çinkaya, is the principal investigator of the project titled “Identification of Candidate Genes Related to Hormone Levels Affecting Growth and Development in Pre-puberty Anatolian Cattle,” which has been awarded funding under the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) “3501-Career Development Program.” The supported project is multidisciplinary, and the project team includes Dr. Mustafa Demirtaş, Dr. Eda Demirtaş, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar Koçak, Dr. Özlem Hacan, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koray Çelikeloğlu as researchers, and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tekerli, Prof. Dr. Metin Erdoğan, and Prof. Dr. Gülcan Avcı as advisors. In this project, determining the levels of hormones that are effective in accelerating the growth and development processes of Anatolian buffaloes and revealing the genetic variations in this regard will be a critical step towards the propagation and increased productivity of Anatolian buffaloes. By using genetic markers that increase or decrease the levels of hormones affecting the growth and development of buffaloes in selection, it will be possible to achieve faster growth and earlier breeding of buffaloes. The results obtained can be evaluated within the scope of the TAGEM – Anatolian Buffalo Breeding in the Hands of the People national project and, in the long term, contribute to the national project by improving the productivity characteristics of the Turkish buffalo population.
